Mini-Splits, Marine Layer Humidity and Coastal Air

Mini-splits have become a favorite way to cool older San Diego homes, from North Park bungalows to Pacific Beach cottages, and to condition new ADUs without running ducts. Near the coast, the humid months of May Gray and June Gloom keep the indoor coil damp, and the blower wheel and drain line can grow mold and algae that clog the drain and cause leaks. Outdoor units close to the ocean also face salt air that corrodes coils and wiring. We clean the coil and drain, check the wiring and line set, and show you how to keep the filters clean.

Ductless Mini-Split Repair FAQ for San Diego, CA

Why is my mini-split leaking water inside?

Usually the condensate drain line is clogged with algae or the indoor head isn't draining at the right slope. A dirty coil, or one that froze from low refrigerant, can also cause it. We clear the drain and find what caused the backup.

What does the blinking light on my mini-split mean?

Most mini-splits flash a code that points to a sensor, the fan motor, communication between the indoor and outdoor units or a refrigerant problem. We read the code for your brand and test the parts it points to.

How often should mini-split filters be cleaned?

Check the washable filters in each indoor head every few weeks while the system is in regular use, and rinse them when they look dusty. Clean filters keep air moving and help prevent coil and drain trouble.
